This February we want to introduce you to some of the #blackmakers that help make the Forge what it is. We are so excited to share Ronnie's story with you!
Ronnie Staton has been a member of the Forge for almost 7 years. For those keeping track, the Forge has been open since 2014 so Ronnie has been gracing these halls for 87.5% of the time we've been around. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Ronnie has been growing his family business at the Forge for years and has recently joined the ranks of Shop Mentors, training and helping members use the machines in the Forge's Laser Lab.
We asked Ronnie a few questions:
Forge: Tell us about your history as a maker. What is your process?
Ronnie: I was always good with my hands and having troubleshooting skills. I'm always thinking of a way to create something rather never seen before or adding my touch on something already created. My process is think, design, cut, prep, assemble, share.
F: Tell us a fun fact or story about you! Are you a veteran? Are you a bungee jumping enthusiast? Do you have the world's largest collection of cookie jars?
R: My first passion is cars! I'm a BIG CHEVY FAN. I'm into the older cars mainly. I have a big appreciation for American Muscle.
F: What drew you to mentoring and leading/teaching others?
R: I like being a mentor because I help others troubleshoot and use the equipment properly.
Ronnie and his wife, Damaris, are the folks behind Staton Wood Co., making bespoke and personalized accessories, décor, gifts, and more. They have recently launched a line catering specifically to other small businesses by creating things to stand out from the crowd, like business cards, custom stamps, and so much more.
